Sights & Landmarks

Kasai Rinkai Park, opened in 1989 on Tokyo Bay, is the largest park in central Tokyo. Located right next to Kasai-Rinkai-Koen Station on the JR Keiyo Line (about 10-15 minutes from Tokyo Station), it sits just across the river from Tokyo Disney Resort. This massive green space features a dedicated seabird sanctuary, an observation building, and scenic beach areas perfect for relaxing walks.
Inside the park, visitors can explore the Tokyo Sea Life Park. This popular aquarium is home to over 600 species and is famous for its massive, doughnut-shaped tank of Pacific bluefin tuna, as well as its large penguin exhibit. Nearby stands the park's iconic landmark, the Diamond and Flowers Ferris Wheel. Standing 117 meters tall, it is Japan's second tallest Ferris wheel, offering panoramic views over Tokyo Bay and, on clear days, Mt. Fuji.
For family-friendly indoor activities, the Metro Museum is located right under the tracks at Kasai Station on the Tozai Line. It is a hands-on museum dedicated to the Tokyo subway system, complete with realistic train simulators. Further north, near Nishi-Kasai Station, Gyosen Park houses the Edogawa Zoo, which is completely free to enter. Right next to the zoo is Heisei Garden, a small and tranquil Japanese garden featuring a traditional pond.
Shopping

Edogawa offers a wonderful glimpse into local Tokyo life through its traditional shopping streets. In the eastern part of the ward, shoppers can visit Shinozaki Shinmachi shopping street, which is widely known as the easternmost *shotengai* (shopping street) in all of Tokyo. It provides a charming, slow-paced environment for daily essentials.
For a livelier atmosphere, the area surrounding JR Koiwa Station is highly recommended. Koiwa is famous for its retro shopping streets that have retained their post-war charm. Here, visitors can browse through independent boutiques, local grocers, and discount shops that cater to the neighborhood's diverse residents.
Food & Dining

The neighborhood of Nishi-Kasai is widely celebrated as Tokyo's "Little India." Edogawa Ward is home to over 3,700 residents of Indian origin, representing about 30% of Tokyo's entire Indian community. This vibrant enclave grew rapidly after Indian IT engineers arrived in Japan around the Y2K era and settled along the convenient Tozai Line.
Food lovers will find exceptional, authentic Indian restaurants and well-stocked grocery stores throughout Nishi-Kasai. Renowned spots include Spice Magic Calcutta, which stands as the neighborhood's oldest Indian eatery, alongside other highly regarded establishments like Delhi Dhaba and Amudhasurabhi.
Beyond Indian cuisine, the retro streets of Koiwa offer a classic Japanese dining experience. The area is packed with everyday *izakaya* (Japanese pubs) where residents gather for affordable drinks, yakitori, and seasonal dishes in a friendly, neighborhood atmosphere.
Getting Around

Navigating Edogawa and commuting to central Tokyo is remarkably straightforward. The Tokyo Metro Tozai Line, which stops at Nishi-Kasai and Kasai stations, connects residents directly to major business hubs like Otemachi and Nihombashi in approximately 15 to 20 minutes.
For coastal travel, the JR Keiyo Line serves Kasai-Rinkai-Koen Station, providing a direct route to Tokyo Station in about 10 to 15 minutes, as well as easy access to Chiba. In the northern part of the ward, the JR Sobu Line stops at Koiwa Station, offering convenient access to Akihabara and Shinjuku.
Additionally, the Toei Shinjuku Line serves Shinozaki and Mizue stations. This line provides a direct, hassle-free ride to major cultural and commercial hubs such as Jimbocho and Shinjuku, making Edogawa an incredibly practical base for mid-term stays.
Events & Seasonal Highlights

Summer in Edogawa is highlighted by one of Tokyo's most spectacular celebrations. The 51st Edogawa Fireworks Festival is scheduled to take place on Saturday, August 1, 2026, from 19:15 to 20:20. Held on the spacious Edogawa riverbed near Shinozaki Park (Kami-Shinozaki), this massive event is one of the city's most beloved summer traditions.
The festival will showcase approximately 14,000 fireworks launched across 7 themed programs. A major highlight of the night is the famous giant "Mt. Fuji" set-piece, which illuminates the night sky in a breathtaking display. For those seeking the best views, paid reserved seats went on general sale starting June 13, 2026.
Living in Edogawa allows mid-term visitors to experience these authentic seasonal events and daily neighborhood charms firsthand. For those planning a stay in Tokyo, OHAYO offers comfortable, fully furnished monthly rental apartments in Edogawa, making it easy to settle into this vibrant, well-connected community.
